He was born on 22 November 1939, in Saifai, United Provinces, British India. The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh served three non-consecutive terms as well as the Minister of Defence of the Government of India. Presently, he is the Member of Parliament for the Lok Sabha constituency of Mainpuri, and previously he represented the constituencies of Azamgarh and Sambhal.
